Condenser

A shell and tube condenser is a type of heat exchanger used to condense steam or vapor into a liquid by transferring heat to a cooling fluid. It consists of a bundle of tubes enclosed within a cylindrical shell.

Working Principle

  1. Hot vapor enters the shell side of the condenser.
  2. Cooling water flows through the tubes.
  3. Heat is transferred from the vapor to the cooling water through the tube walls.
  4. As the vapor loses heat, it condenses into liquid.
  5. The condensed liquid (condensate) is collected and removed, while the warmed cooling water exits the tubes.

Advantages

  • High heat transfer efficiency.
  • Suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature applications.
  • Robust and durable construction.
  • Easy maintenance and cleaning.
  • Can handle large heat loads.
